My recent pulse says ... I feel like cosplaying. A couple of friends asked what is is all about. A lengthy explanation can be found thru google or from this wiki page. In simpler terms though, it means that you put on a costume and play like any manga, anime, or cartoon character or game character of your choice. Popular characters are mostly from games and animes. My liking is brought about by the recent cosplay convention in the country which I've attended so I thought, I wanna try it hehe. My group of friends is planning to join the next one so I looked around ... While searching for one that will be able to play as, I found several good and not-so-good ones. Some are very amazing ... as if they popped out from the game coz they really look like the characters and now ... well, they can have some more help to make it better lah.
Allow me to share with you my choices here. This is not a means to bash any one. I just got these photos publicly online and I'm just using them as a means of comparison. You may agree or disagree with me though but it's my personal opinion ... so there ... here goes ...
Thumbs Up: The eyes are very expressive. Brings the character to life.
Needs Improvement: Posing needs more form and hairstyle.
Thumbs Up: The costume and pose are very well executed during this play.
Needs Improvement: Hair needs more fixing and a little weight-loss.
Thumbs Up: They really look like the original characters. The dress, the hair, and everything else.
Needs Improvement: Looks more gothic vampires to me. No offense ok?
Thumbs Up: Not really the best around but everything about Chun Li seems active here. Yey thunder thighs!
Needs Improvement: There are loads of sexier Chun Li cosplayers but the character's not much enliven here.
Thumbs Up: Very-well played!
Needs Improvement: Slim down a bit and cut down the curls. More facial expression please!
Thumbs Up: Love the chinky-round eyes and the pose! Very cute!
Needs Improvement: Costume is nice and the head band too. Maybe a little more make up will do ...
Thumbs Up: Such a sexy pose! I can't even pose like this! And sorry, this is supposed to be from King of Fighers! Wrong caption up there!
Needs Improvement: A little more weight-loss and hair dye can do ...
Thumbs Up: Nuff said!
Needs Improvement: Dude, you need a costume to cosplay!
Thumbs Up: Too pale-faced but this can do. Such cuteness!

Thumbs Up: Wow! Looks like she's for real!
Needs Improvement: Nice costume! Maybe a little more hair styling.

Needs Improvement: Is it the hair? The figure? I can't figure out.
Thumbs Up: The costime and the face combined ... the character is brought to life!
Needs Improvement: My main comment looks like ... er ... has something to do with the figure ei? And the hair. But the costume is fine.
Thumbs Up: Meer in live action!
Needs Improvement: Maybe, the first one looks like Meer more?
Thumbs Up: All the props and everything is soooo Misa here!
Needs Improvement: I like the costume though ...
Thumbs Up: The 2nd girl is more voluptuous, looks like a real succubus.
Needs Improvement: Too skinny.
Thumbs Up: The pose has the real Nana attitude!
Needs Improvement: Looks sad.
Thumbs Up: I love Naruto! Coolness!
Needs Improvement: Naruto after hunger strike I guess? Sorry. But Naruto is thin.
Thumbs Up: These kids are just sooo cute.
Needs Improvement: Uh ... I just like the kids more.
Thumbs Up: Whoooa! This is so-like Neji?
Needs Improvement: Neji struck with a virus.
Thumbs Up: Not too-Neko-like but good enough. Neko's are sexy, right?
Needs Improvement: My eyes hurt! Sorry! I love the hair though ...
Thumbs Up: Very expensive costume I guess? The facial expression is very-Paine!
Needs Improvement: She's a bit chubby here.
Thumbs Up: Full-time action on the move!
Needs Improvement: Rangiku got bloated!
Thumbs Up: Simple, but nice!
Needs Improvement: If this photo didn't come out from a "Rei Cosplay" photo search, I wouldn't know she's supposed to be Rei.
Thumbs Up: The best Rikku I found!
Needs Improvement: Maybe just the face, she doesn't look too much like Rikku but other than that, she's good.

Ahhh ... it's fun looking at these photos. Some are rather naughty and some ... well ... they need a break. What do you think? And oh ... just finished Book 6 of HP ... didn't like it much! Sounds like there were lots of short cuts and it was hastily finished. Awwww ....

Thanks for all the feedback! Really appreciate your views! I'd just like to clarify though that I didn't mean this to be an Asian vs. Non-Asian cosplayers thing, or that as if the weight really needs to be critiqued. My only thing here is that, with cosplay, it really won't look good if you don't look much like the character. Like for me, I won't go as Rikku since she's too skinny and I am not. Otherwise, my tummy'll go bulging out and it's not good to see, right? Other than that, cosplay's supposed to be a fun thing to do so well, lemme just salute everyone for the costumes. (^_^)v

Keke, as nerdy as it sounds, I used to want to cosplay. xD
Those are some good ones. o__o I think the best out of that list is the Angel Sanctuary, Rangiku, Haruhi, Chobits, Is, Misa, Nartuo, Kakashi kid<33, Tifa (both), Vincent, and Yuna.
The Rukia cosplay "Thumbs Up!" looks like a regular school girl. xP
Those costumes are so awesome. Some are super detailed while some are just.. bland.

you know, cosplay and other anime-like characteristics, should just be left to the japanese/korean/chinese (and such type asians). the caucasians seriously just can't pull it off as well.
Cosplay...whoaaa. I love the Gundam box guy, i mean, you have to give him props for a sense of humor!!
Umm, the HBP film is coming out this November. Can that be considered "soon?" It's 6 months away...but the teaser trailer is coming out sometime in may...

@maebemaebenot - LOL. I've just read then about this site / blog entitled "Why Americans shouldn't cosplay." I kinda found it funny but there are some non-Asians too who can strut their stuff ... but yeah, only some hehe.

I think Rangiku from Bleach is the best one, except for the needs improvement one, haha. It was better than some of the others though.
some of them look so alike and some are a bit ahhh. You should try going to comic con the anime convention, a whole bunch of ppl cosplay there.

The only characters I know of are the FF's, the good ones were very well done.

@Scrooge0 - ok not to appear with too much of the asian pride going on, but but but...the 'thumbs up' pictures are 99% with the japanese/chinese donning the costumes right and the 'thumbs down' are just well, you know, the whites doing it all wrong! aww ying, stop picking on me already!

Ha ha, you have to remember, also, that the most you chose 'Thumbs Up' for are professional cosplayers. I know Adella, (Aeris) from deviantart, and she's... Well, let's just put it this way: She's the damned Johnny Depp of American Cosplayers. I'd also like to note that larger people should be allowed to cosplay, too, even if the character's skinny, since no one seems to make attractive fat characters. It's a shame, really, since I know a lot of incredibly beautiful fat chicks and guys. Tsk tsk~

Wow. Some of the thumbs-up ones are really good! Especially the ones playing characters from Naruto. And that Cloud! Omg, he looks so good I almost want to slap him! And it's so freaky that girl can pose exactly like the character she's playing.
I guess nowadays cosplay is brought up to a new level. Now it's not just the costume; the face and figure and confidence count too. I guess the bottom line would be: just pick to play the character that looks most like you. Unless you opt for plastic surgeries of course, which I do not recommend.
I wonder who I can play best.

honestly, the asian girls pretty much beat the amercians at this :P but one thing that's kinda misleading is: the "thumbs up" photos pretty often look like they've been take by professionals or from interesting angles adding som fierce while the "need some improvment" ones are take by amateurs :P unfair?
